Hazards of Television watching for kids
Television has entered into the drawing rooms of the people to stay. It provides entertainment, information and education but The TV serials are becoming harmful to the children now a day. The time has come that the parents have to guide their children for what to see and what not to see on TV.
The Department of Education states that children in the United States watch an average of three to five hours of television every day. Studies show that too much television viewing can have adverse affects, such as more violent and aggressive behavior, poor school performance, obesity, early sexual activity, and drug or alcohol use.
For children, it is important to play, read, to do homework, and to talk with others children and adults for healthy development, according to the Department of Education. Children who watch too much TV have less time for these activities, which are so important for healthy development. Eating too much junk food and watching too much televisions are two major causes for obesity (became very fat).
Children who watch too much television do not get as much physical activity and do not explore new activities. However, there is system of locking some channel. We should use it, if it is useful at all.
The cartoon Network has made the children vegetables, they have lost their ability to think and understand. Such programmes have obstructed the progress of the child. Some children tries to copy stunts of the actors for example, Shaktiman, Batman, Spiderman, and doing these stunts, they injured themselves or injure others.
Children are not doing any activities, which are helpful in developing their bodies and brains when they watch television. The Parents as Teachers National Center says that young children need to “explore, move, skill, smell, touch and repeat as they learn.” Studies have found that watching television does not increase attention and promote social skills.
The Department of Education said that language skills are best developed through reading and interactions with others. However, too much television-watching can obstructs this development. Therefore, Hours spent watching TV make risk-taking for many children.
The parents should encouraged their children to spend more time in reading book. They should take following steps to encourage their children.
- Set Limits: Know how much TV your child is watching. Set some basic rules such as no television before homework or chores are done or during meals.
- Participate: Watch TV with your child and discuss the program. Ask them questions and express your views. This will also let you know what your children are watching.
- Monitor: Avoid shows, movies, or video games that have violent or sexual content. Encourage children to watch programs about characters which shows cooperation.
